About African Standards of SHEQ

African Standards of SHEQ Consulting and Training was established in order to capacitate the occupational health, safety, and environmental sector. From a broader perspective AS SHEQ Consulting and Training observed that the European Safety Health and Environmental Quality  Standards are innovative to their industry. So AS Africans  we observed that our industries system still to improve hence we values the African safety standards that suit capacity of our industries tradition, norms and values of African safety culture.

To this end, AS SHEQ Consulting and Training was established to assist the nation in providing the necessary safety skills that match the needs and demands of the ever-growing in all sectors of economy but not limited to manufacturing, construction etc.

BACKGROUND

The AS SHEQ Diamond Training Model

Training is one of the most expensive but vital investment any company can make with the hope that the intended profitability margin would be achieved. The truth is that, most training sessions are like throwing buckets of paint at a high wall and hoping the paint will stick in the right places. But in reality a productive training session is only possible if and only if a fine tipped brush that targets the nooks and crannies of each person’s job-specific learning needs is identified. In addition, a work based flow up must be made to evaluate whether a training intervention has yielded the results. So we at AS SHEQ Training follow the Diamond-Training Model that enhances client’s return on investment.

  • Objectives- Before a rand is invested in a training programme, a clear objective of the effort must be defined. More often than not, employers tend to believe that a under performance can be fixed by a training engagement but other deliverables like mentoring and counseling might be the optimal solution. For instance, if the sales representative is rude because of poor remuneration then, training may not make her any more polite. So before we offer a training service we execute a training needs assessment to determine whether training is the optimal solution.

 

  • Drive- Once the training objective has been defined, the next step is to ensure the ‘buy-in’ by the learners. Empirically, most trainees arrive at the training venues not knowing the theme let alone the name of course. So at Striving mind, we communicate with our trainees before the training workshop to motivate and look forward to the value adding skills expedition.
